Newson Consultancy is an academic hub, leading project-based teams to execute world-class research and expert comment. We are committed to research that elucidates our social connections, cohesion, and feelings of belonging. Together we tackle questions around the societal burdens left in the wake of disconnected families, neighbourhoods and societies. We help major organisations make sense of our modern tribes, to create a better world for us all.
Global, expert teams
Hand-picked teams of academics and practitioners from universities across the globe, selected for their expertise in methods or themes for each project. If we don’t have the right expert already on our books, we will find them. Our teams are anthropologists, psychologists, engineers, biologists, criminologists, sports scientists and more.
We devote our working lives to research. We ask questions. We solve problems. We are the seekers, the communicators, the knowledge-hungry experts who will help you understand people and behaviour. Our primary focus is social identities and belonging; what makes people stick together, or fall apart, and how a knowledge of human evolution can help us better understand our deep-seated need to belong.
Favourable rates are negotiable for third sector and charitable organisations.
Academic insight
Expert comment, workshops, talks, and recommendations from professionals who know their subject inside out, packaged to blend seamlessly with brand messaging and optics. Our insights are grounded in the latest research, scientific theory, and decades of experience working with cultures around the world. We are experienced in media sessions for press, radio and television.
Led by Dr Martha Newson, we are anthropologists, psychologists, engineers, criminologists, behavioural economists and biologists from universities all over the world. Martha is a cognitive anthropologist and chartered psychologist who obtained her PhD and MSc in Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology from the University of Oxford. Martha directs all projects personally and ensures that the bespoke consultancy we provide is always to the exceptionally high standard our clients expect.
Rigorous research
We implement quantitative and qualitative methods to find meaning in complex behaviours across cultures. Cutting edge research designed collaboratively with scientists and those using the research to deliver results that have immediate use in the real world. User-friendly summaries and analytic reports.
Recent clients include the Premier League, Hyundai, Sky Sports, Guinness, Old Parr Whisky, Manchester City, Currys, Eaton Energy, Electrolux, MOIR, and the social movement Camerados. We deliver rigorous research, innovative analyses, inspiring talks, and expert comment from multi-disciplinary teams that are handpicked for each project.
